Agios Nikolaos is a coastal town located in the east of Crete. In the heart of the town, you will see a formerly Fresh-water lake, connected to the sea with a tunnel that was dug in 1870. A panoramic view of the lake can be seen from a small park situated above it. In the town, you can visit local restaurants and shops to try local cuisine and pick up some souvenirs.
Agios Nikolaos has an enviable location on hilly terrain overlooking the shores of the curving Mirabello Bay. It may feel less Cretan than other towns, partly because of its resort-style flair, tree-lined avenues and mostly modern architecture. However, there's also a strong local character to Agios Nikolaos that gives it a charismatic, low-key flair.

Opposite Elounda you will see Spinalonga island, it has been a huge part of Crete’s History over the last few centuries but is most famously known for its use as a leper colony from 1903 to 1957.
The Spinelonga Fortress is the second most visited archaeological site in Crete, after the palace of Knossos, and the sixth in the whole of Greece. It is notorious for being one of the last active leper colonies in Europe, and it is said that the last inhabitant of the island left in 1962. He was a priest.
On Spinalonga you will be able to take incredible photos and grasp the complexity of the island’s history while taking in the beautiful sites of the Aegean Sea and stepping into the lives of those who lived there.
