We will ascend to the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman to begin our excursion at the fortress of the same name. This stunning site exudes peace and tranquility, allowing us to marvel at the massive stones, some up to 4 meters high, used in its construction.
Next, we will visit Q'enqo, an ancient temple dedicated to the Puma, where we can see an altar for sacrifices carved into the interior of a massive rock. Following this, we’ll head to Tambomachay, known for its sacred fountains that symbolize life and health. On the way, we’ll enjoy a panoramic view of Puca Pucara, a watchtower that once controlled access to the city.
Our tour continues with a visit to the Temple of the Sun, Korikancha, upon which the Convent of Santo Domingo was later built. According to legend, this temple was once entirely covered in gold sheets, astonishing the Conquistadors upon their arrival.
Finally, we will explore the Main Square and visit the Cathedral, home to invaluable colonial paintings and artworks, including the Cross that arrived with the first Conquistadors.
