The Tha Kha floating market is a small, old-world floating market located in Samut Songkhram province, about an hour from Bangkok. It is not as well known as its more famous neighours, the Damnoen Saduak floating market and the Amphawa floating market.
The Tha Kha floating market has largely been protected from the commercial onslaught that comes with mass tourism and has remained a more authentic, off-the-beaten-track alternative. Until just recently, its days of operation were calculated according to the lunar calendar. Although now open every weekend, it has changed little over the years. The majority of buyers and vendors are locals doing their week's shopping for fruits and meats, etc.
This floating market was not set up for tourists. Do not expect to see souveniers or trinkets here! But it does give you with the wonderful opportunity to try some noodles traditionally presented in a bowl made from a banana leaf or a coconut pancake, a Thai-style omelette or fresh pomello, etc. all of which is served straight from a boat.
