Tinmel Mosque Day Trip, or Tinmmal in Berber, was established by the founder of the Almohad Berber Dynasty, Mohamed Bne Toumart, also known as El Mahdi because of his predicted redemption. The tour takes us through many different Berber villages and the beautiful archways of Tinmel Village and Gandafi Kasbah, the chef of the area during French colonization. The tour will lead us to the conclusion that the mosque was built not only for religious and spiritual purposes, but also for fortification against potential attacks. The Almohad family established their vast dominion from here.
The Mosque was constructed near the grave of Mahd ibn Tmart (d.1130), the originator of a new theological ideology advocating monotheism and rigorous moral reforms. This mosque is a model of Almohad construction, and it was commissioned by the dynasty's first monarch, 'Abd al-Mu'min (reigned 1130–1163).
