This was the last capital of the Sinhala kings whose patronage enabled the Dinahala culture to flourish for more than 2,500 years until the occupation of Sri Lanka by the British in 1815. It is also the site of the Temple of the Tooth Relic (the sacred tooth of the Buddha), which is a famous pilgrimage site, one of the most famous Buddhist temples in the world, which was built to protect the sacred tooth relic thought to belong to Lord Buddha, which has been enshrined in Sri Lanka for hundreds of years As well as a host of other temples, visitors to the city can wander along Kandy Lake, stroll through the stunning Botanical Gardens – created by the British in the 19th century and still one of the most beautiful gardens in Asia. - The Knuckles Mountain Range lies in central Sri Lanka, north-east of the city of Kandy. The range takes its name from a series of recumbent folds and peaks in the west of the massif which resembles the knuckles of clenched fist when viewed from certain locations in the Kandy District. Whilst this name was assigned by early British surveyors, the Sinhalese residents have traditionally referred to the area as Dumbara Kandu Watiye meaning mist-laden mountain range. The entire area is characterised by its striking landscapes often robed in thick layers of cloud but in addition to its aesthetic value the range is of great scientific interest. It is a climatic microcosm of the rest of Sri Lanka. Riverston Trekking is one of the most well-known adventure activities to try in Sri Lanka. The long trek along the hill won’t make you tired because of the ever-blowing wind that refreshes you from the beginning to the end. The entire region is a miracle of mother nature. The misty mountain top is the place where a giant telecommunication tower stands. We highly recommend this trek for all travelers who love adventure and enjoying nature’s beauty at the same time. There is a myth about Pitawala- pathana that Rama and Rawana had a chemical war here. Also, Tampita Temple - A unique temple with its prominent feature being mounted on dwarfed rock pillars
